Right idea, wrong customer


Do you find that you're getting plenty of website traffic, but conversions are low? Have you spent money on pay-per-click advertising, but people click away from your landing page in a matter of seconds? Maybe while your digital marketing ideas and website are technically great, they're actually targeting the wrong audience. You might be suffering from “Right idea, wrong customers syndrome".
 
To make the most of your website, create visitor profiles to work out how potential customers are behaving on there. For example, find out how successful conversions are being made by working backwards from the point of sale and see the steps taken to get there. What device do they use? What referrals are bringing them to you? All of this information can be easily deduced using tools such as Google Analytics and can help you get a better idea of the kind of customer base you should be building. You can also ask customers direct questions through online surveys and telephone calls to also help you to get a better picture of your visitor’s interaction with the website.
 
Armed with this information you can also tweak your website text and images to suit your audience and give them more of what they want to hear. You could also produce offers or promotions to suit the right demographic. Making small changes that better reflect the audience you're trying to connect with will help you to capture customers without having to completely overhaul your entire website.
